ACG NEW YORK
to explore the independent sponsor model and its role in private equity investing.
The luncheon, titled “A Good Investment, Terrific Management but No Capital? No
Problem!” featured a panel of industry experts who spoke about independent sponsors,
a deal-sourcing entity that seeks investment opportunities prior to raising capital.
Led by event chair and moderator David Acharya, a partner with AGI Partners LLC, panelists
discussed the characteristics that make an independent sponsor successful, such as operational and industry expertise. The conversation also addressed the advantages and disadvantages of operating as an independent sponsor rather than as a traditional private equity fund,
and how firms can differentiate themselves in the market.
In addition to Acharya, the panel featured five partners at leading PE firms along with one
attorney. More than 150 attended the event, held at New York City’s Union League Club. //
